Summer sun is up before five on the Coast. If your bedroom faces east, you know about it. Add a streetlight out the front, a west-facing room that’s still hot at nine at night, or a media room where you can’t see the screen until the sun goes down, and the window becomes the problem.
Blockout curtains stop light coming through the fabric. Set up on the right track with enough overlap at the sides, they make a room dark and private at any hour, and they take the edge off heat coming through the glass.
A blockout curtain should still be doing its job in ten years. We get calls about bedroom curtains we made more than a decade ago, which is what custom work on a properly specified track buys you. We’ve been making them on the Coast at Adek Blinds & Curtains for 30+ years.
Blockouts are one part of our wider curtain range, and they’re often fitted on a second track behind a sheer curtain so you get soft light by day and full privacy at night.
Blockout fabric stops daylight and streetlight passing through, so early risers, shift workers, nurseries and light sleepers all get a room that stays dark when it needs to.
Lights on inside and dark outside is when most windows give the most away. A closed blockout curtain shows nothing. No shapes, no movement.
A heavy curtain across the glass slows the heat coming in on a summer afternoon and helps hold warmth in on a winter night. It won't replace insulation, but on a big window you'll feel the difference.
Coastal sun is hard on timber floors, rugs and furniture. Closing a blockout through the hottest part of the day cuts the UV that fades them.
Finding the right curtains is essential for both comfort and style in the Central Coast’s unique climate. Our collection is designed to suit every lifestyle, balancing light control, privacy, and timeless design. Whether you’re after soft sheers, elegant folds, or practical blockouts, we have a solution tailored to your home.

Whoever quotes your job is the one who comes back to fit it. No salesperson handing your measurements to a subcontractor, no one to blame if the curtain comes up short.
30+ years in the same trade, in the same town, under the same name. Our Google reviews are full of repeat customers, which is the part you can check for yourself.
We supply and install Hunter Douglas, Luxaflex, Silhouette, Silent Gliss, Verosol, Somfy, Inika and Logic. We'll tell you which one suits your room and which one is overkill.
Blockout fabric gets used harder than any other curtain in the house, opened and closed every single day. Ours are still working in bedrooms we fitted out more than a decade ago.
Blockout fabric only does half the job. Light gets in around the top, the sides and the gap in the middle. We position the track, set the overlap and allow enough width so the light stays out.
Sometimes a blockout roller blind is the better answer, especially in a tight reveal. We'll tell you that on the day rather than sell you the wrong thing.
Most of our blockout work goes into bedrooms, nurseries and media rooms, and that’s the same story in Gosford, East Gosford, Wyoming and Erina as it is in Terrigal, Avoca Beach and Killcare.
Closer to the water, blockouts often go in behind a sheer on a second track. The sheer handles the glare off the water through the day, and the blockout closes the room at night.
Want to feel the weight of the fabrics before you commit? Come by the Kincumber showroom and we’ll show you how different blockouts hang and how much light each one stops.
Once you're happy with the fabric, the heading and the track, your blockout curtains are made to order to your measurements.

We come back and fit them ourselves. Same phone number if you ever need us again.

The fabric does. What gets through is the light around the edges: above the track, at the sides and where the two curtains meet. A ceiling-fixed track, extra width past the window and a good centre overlap cut that right down. We’ll set it up to suit how dark you need the room.
Blockouts stop light and give full privacy at any hour. Sheers filter light and give daytime privacy while you can still see out. Most homes need both, in different rooms or on the same window. More on sheer curtains here.
Yes, and it’s the most common set-up we install. The sheer goes on the front track, the blockout on the track behind it. You use the sheer during the day and pull the blockout across at night.
Curtains give a softer look, better coverage past the edges of the window and more help with heat and noise. A blockout roller blind takes up less room and suits tight reveals, kitchens and bathrooms. Plenty of bedrooms end up with a roller for darkness and a sheer curtain for looks.
Yes. A closed blockout curtain slows heat coming through the glass on hot afternoons and helps hold warmth in the room on cold nights. The effect is biggest on large windows and west-facing rooms.
They’re one of the best options for all three. Pair the fabric with a track that limits light around the edges and the room will stay dark in the middle of the day.
Yes. S-fold is a heading style, so it works with blockout fabric. It gives an even, contemporary fold and stacks back neatly beside the window. More on S-fold curtains here.
Yes. Motorised tracks make sense for heavy curtains, long spans, tall windows, or bedrooms where you want the curtains closing on a timer. We use Somfy motorisation. Bryn will tell you honestly whether it’s worth it for your window.
Check the care label first, because many blockout fabrics have a coated back that doesn’t handle a washing machine or dryer. For most, a regular vacuum with a soft brush attachment and spot cleaning with a damp cloth is enough. Ask us if you’re unsure about yours.
It depends on the window size, the fabric, the heading and the track. We’ll give you one fair price in writing after a free measure-up. No inflated list price, no discount theatre.
